There are safety shoes and there are safety shoes

Currently, we talk about three different types: Safety shoes, lightweight safety shoes, and work shoes.

Safety Shoes - The Art of Choosing the Right One

Before you decide which work shoes to buy, you should check that the protection class of the shoes corresponds to the risks present at your workplace. What potential accidents could occur? What type of flooring are you working on? What temperatures are you working in? Consider these factors before choosing a shoe. Once you have a clear understanding of which factors are most important, you can start looking for a new pair of shoes. A good starting point is to investigate what certification the shoe has. At Arbetsskydd Express, we only sell safety shoes that fall under the certification EN ISO 20345. (We also sell other types of shoes, but they are not referred to as safety shoes.)

Basic Requirements

EN ISO 20345 means that the safety shoes comply with a number of basic requirements regarding height, design of the toe cap and outsole, and the shoe's permeability to water vapor. These parameters protect against accidents that involve impacts, crushing injuries, rolling objects, heat, cold, and hot substances. The toe cap is also strong enough to withstand a load of >200 J. Within EN ISO 20345, there are also several types of protection classes that include additional basic requirements.

S1

A complete shoe that has antistatic properties, an oil-resistant sole, and ergonomic cushioning in the heel.

S2

Has the same properties as S1 but also includes protection against water penetration and cushioning in the sole.

S3

Same as S1 and S2 but also has penetration protection and a customized outsole.

S5

(Shoes in PVC or PU): Has antistatic properties, an oil-resistant sole, ergonomic cushioning in the heel, penetration protection, and a customized outsole.

Extra features

In addition, there may be several features that are not mandatory based on the protection class of the shoe, but that can still be included. For example, thermal insulation, insulation against cold, waterproofing, and midfoot support.
